An autumn stay in Zadar can bring together a morning in the Old Town, a walk by the sea and an evening in your own sauna. September, October and early November offer different ways to enjoy that combination. Choose your dates around the part of the holiday that matters most to you, whether that is time outdoors, exploring the city or settling into a villa with friends.
Villa Mary Lou welcomes guests from 15 May to 15 November. For an autumn visit, you can rent the whole four-bedroom villa with its private pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Outside the main season, the minimum stay is four nights, giving you time to enjoy both Zadar and the house you have chosen.
Which part of autumn suits your stay?
If swimming is high on your list, start by considering September, while keeping the actual sea conditions and forecast part of your decision. October suits a plan built around the city, meals together and a day out in nature. For early November, put the Old Town, museums and time at the villa at the centre of your stay, with coastal walks when conditions suit.
The useful distinction is what you want to spend your days doing. A holiday that depends on swimming every afternoon needs a different plan from one centred on culture and relaxation. No autumn date guarantees beach weather, and the villa's heated pool is still outdoors.
| When you visit | A useful focus for the stay | Plan ahead for |
|---|---|---|
| September | The coast, the Old Town and time by the pool | Main-season booking rules still cover part of the month |
| October | City walks, a museum and one day trip | Seasonal opening hours and confirmed excursion departures |
| 1–15 November | Culture, shared meals and private wellness at the villa | Earlier sunsets, shorter visits outdoors and the villa's closing date |
Check your selected dates in the calendar. Saturday-to-Saturday stays apply in the main season from 13 June to 12 September; the four-night minimum applies outside that period.
Spend a day on Zadar's peninsula
Start around the Forum and St Donatus Church, then explore the streets towards People's Square. The Zadar Tourist Board's introduction to the Forum provides context for the Roman remains you see in the open square. Leave time for a coffee and a proper lunch instead of booking every hour of the day.
Choose one museum according to your interests. The Archaeological Museum Zadar is beside the Forum. The Museum of Ancient Glass is another option for a closer look at the city's past; consult its programme if you want to see a glassmaking demonstration. Check the venue's hours for your date, especially around holidays and the change to winter schedules.
Finish your walk at the Sea Organ. Its sound comes from the movement of the sea, while Greeting to the Sun adds a light installation after sunset. You can read about both on the regional tourist board's website. In autumn, check sunset time before setting off so this stop fits naturally before dinner.

Make room for one day outside the city
Choose the outing by what your group enjoys: walking beneath the cliffs of Paklenica, exploring the waterfall landscape at Krka or spending a day at sea around Kornati. Our guide to day trips from Zadar compares those three experiences and the planning each needs.
For an autumn boat trip, confirm the departure before building the rest of your stay around it. Kornati National Park's excursion information explains that shoulder-season trips can depend on an organised group. Ask the operator about the route, return time and what happens if conditions prevent sailing.
Keep another day free for a local outing. A longer walk along the waterfront, a second visit to a favourite part of town or an afternoon at the villa gives the holiday some breathing room after a full day away.
Return to your own sauna, terrace and dining table
The appeal of an autumn villa stay continues after sightseeing. At Mary Lou, the sauna, outdoor jacuzzi and pool belong to the same whole-villa booking and are reserved for your group. You can spend part of the evening relaxing while others prepare dinner or sit together in the living area.
There are four bedrooms and 259 m² of villa space, with a recommended capacity of eight and a maximum of ten guests. The kitchen and shared dining spaces make an evening at home a practical part of the holiday. Buy what you would like to cook, leave a few hours unplanned and enjoy the house as well as the destination.
For swimming, keep the distinction between heating and an indoor pool clear. The pool is heated but exposed to outdoor conditions, and the jacuzzi is outside too. Ask Marija and Luka about your intended dates if either is central to your stay. The villa gallery shows the actual layout of these spaces.

Plan four nights or longer at your own pace
For a four-night stay, leave the arrival evening for settling in. You then have three full days: one for the peninsula, one for an excursion and one to divide between the villa and whatever you would like to revisit. Stay longer if you want several day trips without filling every day with travel.
Villa Mary Lou is at Ulica Otona Ivekovića 50, outside the Old Town. Plan the journey to the peninsula and back from that address. Our transport guide helps you decide whether to use transfers or hire a car for the outings you have in mind.
To plan your autumn stay, view the villa's rates and availability. Select dates within the opening season and send your group size with the inquiry. Marija and Luka confirm the booking personally; there is no payment on this website.
