You do not automatically need a car for every villa holiday in Zadar. The decision depends mainly on whether you want to spend most of your time at the villa with occasional city visits, or make several independent excursions. For eight to ten guests, compare the whole transport arrangement, including luggage, rather than the price of a single ticket or rental day.
Villa Mary Lou is at Ulica Otona Ivekovića 50. Use that address when planning the journey or arranging a transfer. Reaching Zadar’s bus station or Old Town is not the same as reaching the villa.
Arriving by air: bus or transfer
Zadar Airport publishes a bus connection serving Gaženica, the main bus station and the Old Town. Check the timetable and current fare on the official airport website. The next month’s timetable is published near the end of the preceding month, so an early travel plan may not yet have final departure times.
The bus can suit visitors with manageable luggage and time for the onward journey. Include the final leg from the stop to the villa’s address in your comparison. For a larger group, compare that total with a prearranged transfer, particularly for a late arrival or travel with children.
When requesting a transfer, state the number of passengers, large suitcases and any child seats needed. A vehicle with enough seats may not have enough luggage space. Confirm the price, meeting point, flight-delay arrangements and destination address before travelling.
When a hire car makes sense
A car is useful if you want to choose your departure times, visit several places by road and make larger shopping trips. Compare hiring for the whole holiday with hiring only on excursion days. Guests spending most of their time at the villa may not need the same arrangement as a group setting off somewhere new each morning.
For eight or ten people, do not assume one standard car will be enough. Compare two vehicles with a larger vehicle, considering driver requirements, insurance, fuel and luggage capacity. Check collection and return arrangements, especially if your flight is early in the morning or late at night.
Before booking a vehicle, ask the hosts to confirm parking for the exact number of cars you will bring. Check parking at your planned destinations separately. Even confirmed parking at an accommodation would not settle where to leave the car in the city or at a national park.
A stay without a car needs a small amount of planning
Without a car, you can organise shopping, city visits and excursions in advance while leaving the rest of the day free. Arrange arrival at the villa and basic supplies for the first day rather than solving several separate journeys immediately after travelling. For an evening in town, check how you will get back at your preferred time.
If you choose an organised excursion, ask where it begins and whether getting to that meeting point is included. Boarding a boat at a specified harbour does not necessarily include transport from the villa. Our comparison of Paklenica, Krka and Kornati day trips explains how a land-based outing differs from a day by boat.
For two families, agree whether everyone wants to travel together each day. A single larger vehicle can simplify group outings, while separate arrangements may give more flexibility when plans differ. Compare what you will actually use, rather than choosing by group size alone.

Compare three approaches
| Holiday plan | An option worth comparing | Main question |
|---|---|---|
| Mostly the villa and a few outings | Airport transfer plus occasional rides | How will we return in the evening? |
| Several independent excursions | A hire car or vehicles | How many cars and parking spaces do we need? |
| One or two days beyond the city | Transfers plus a short rental | Is collecting the vehicle convenient? |
Compare the price for the whole group and the whole stay. Include the time spent collecting a car, changing services or waiting. The cheapest individual item may not produce the simplest overall plan.
To compare like for like, write down four items: arrival at the villa + the airport return + planned city outings + excursions. For a hire car, add fuel, parking, an extra driver and child seats if needed. Use the same list for both options.
Prepare one message for a transfer quote: date and flight number, passenger count, large suitcases, required child seats and the address Ulica Otona Ivekovića 50. Ask for the final price for the whole group and the arrangement if your flight is delayed. Confirm your expected villa arrival time separately with the hosts.

Coordinate arrival with the hosts
Alongside your dates, share the expected arrival time and how you are travelling. If members of the group arrive separately, choose one person to coordinate access. Do not assume early check-in or late checkout without an agreement.
Choose your dates and inquire about Villa Mary Lou. Ask the hosts about reaching the address and the group’s arrival, then organise transport around the confirmed stay arrangements.
